Rochester, N.Y.- The City of Rochester's website is now available on a mobile platform.
The mobile platform automatically displays on smartphones when the users type in the City's web address.
The City's full size website content is rendered into a mobile-friendly format, displaying text and graphics in a vertical layout that is easier to manipulate on a touch screen.
It includes a built-in "What's Nearby?" lifestyle application that utilizes a phone's GPS mechanism. It gives a list of City facilities and events and other government buildings in relation to the user's location. One tap of a "Directions" button provides driving or walking directions from the smartphone's location to the selected event or facility. A "Call" button can be tapped to dial the facility's or event contact person's phone number.
