Holley, N.Y. -- A U.S. Army soldier from Holley is being treated for severe burns at an Army medical center in San Antonio.
Cody Coopenberg's grandfather tells 13WHAM News the generator Coopenberg was refueling blew up. Coopenberg was on a base in Afghanistan's Kandahar Province at the time.
He suffered third-degree burns over 60 percent of his body and will likely remain in the hospital for at least a year.
Coopenberg delpoyed to Afghanistan in March, just six days after his wedding. He joined the Army in 2011.
Coopenberg is also a volunteer with the Holley Fire Department.
