Rochester, N.Y. - A comet will become visible to the unaided eye over western New York tonight around sunset.
The comet's name is PANSTARRS. The comet will appear very low on the horizon to the west and southwest after sunset tonight.
The comet will slowly move toward the west northwest sky through the middle and end of the month. Each night it should get slightly higher above the horizon.
Around March 12th comet PANSTARRS will be very close to a crescent moon, which would provide a nice pairing for evening stargazers.
We must stress that viewing the comet will be very weather dependent. Although conditions look favorable for spotting the comet tonight and Saturday, any cloud cover could hamper viewing. Also, try and get to an open area away from artificial lights for the best viewing.
