Rochester, N.Y. – Local residents had a “tea party” on Saturday to bring awareness to the possible demolition of the Westminster Church on West Main St. in Rochester.
The zoning board will be voting on whether or not the church will be demolished and replaced with a Dollar General.
Local community member Stacie Colaprete says that she believes the church has historical value and is worried about what might happen to the neighborhood if it is replaced with a store.
Dawn Noto, president of the Susan B. Anthony neighborhood association, says, that although the church might not look the greatest right now, the long-term plan they have for the church would make it more beneficial to the neighborhood.
Local residents who have been trying to bring awareness to this issue have been participating in weekly walks since March and gathering signatures both online and door-to-door throughout the neighborhood.
The zoning board will vote on the issue on November 29th.
