Rochester, N.Y.- Some local seventh grade girls in Rochester got the chance Thursday to learn more about future careers from successful women.
The Young Women’s College Prep Charter School of Rochester held an event called “Cool Women, Hot Jobs.”
It was a chance for the students to interact and network with 25 successful career women.
Jennifer Gkourlias, the principal of the school said she wanted to send an important message to the girls. “We could be doctors or lawyers but we want them to also see smart girls can do lots of different things”, said Gkourlias. “So we have women representing construction, sales directors, and women in science. So it’s really important to us the women provide role models for the girls so they can envision themselves in all of these different careers."
The school has 75 students in seventh grade and will eventually grow to serve students in grades 7-12.
