Greece, N.Y. -- On Sunday, dozens of people, many with their dogs, took part in the "Dash for Dasher."

The walk was named for a greyhound that was mauled by three pit bulls on May 31. Dasher did not survive.

Dasher's owner Nancy Kliss and another greyhound named Vixen were injured in the attack.

The money raised will help the Kliss family pay their vet bills.

Nancy Kliss said, "It's kind of bittersweet. It's amazing to see the community support us. Friends, family, strangers. It's been overwhelming. It's a great honor for Dasher."

The pit bulls involved in the attack were surrendered to animal control and will be destroyed. The dogs' owner has apologized. He is facing charges.
