Rochester, N.Y. -- A man was found lying on the tracks at the Amtrak Station on Central Avenue early Wednesday morning. Rochester Police say the man was a passenger on a train headed to Chicago.
The man had a head injury and cuts on his body when police found him after midnight. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:15 a.m. Wednesday, February 22.
He was identified later Wednesday by the RPD as Troy Patrick Zabawczuk, 44, of Schenectady, N.Y.
Investigation revealed that Zabawczuk was apparently intoxicated while onboard, and became disruptive. He temporarily exited the train at Rochester for reasons unknown.
When he tried to board again, the conductor denied him because of his behavior.
Investigators believe he may have tried to jump onto the train as it departed, and that it may have dragged him for a short distance.
