Rochester, N.Y.- The sex offender caught hiding in Rochester under an alias has been sentenced to two years in prison.
Dean George Birdsall, 68, was convicted of failing to register as a sex offender in New York State.
He will serve the sentence following the completion of a related sentence in Ohio for escape.
Assistant U.S. Attorney John J. Field, who handled the case, said Birdsall, a convicted sex offender, fled Ohio in July 2007. The defendant eventually traveled to Rochester where he lived and worked for several years under an assumed name and failed to register as a sex offender.
He was caught in August 2010 by a federal fugitive task force.
