Rochester, N.Y. - A new study shows that, on average, Rochester-area drivers are more distracted than drivers nationwide.

The Rochester Ad Council found that 25% of Rochester area drivers admitted to texting while driving within the past month. That's much higher than the national average of 18%.

The council surveyed area drivers and used an observational study to back up their data. The study was conducted by observing more than 11,000 drivers at nine busy intersections during rush hour.

A positive note about this study: compared to other parts of the country, Rochester drivers do better at avoiding non-cellular distractions including eating, drinking, setting their GPS, and applying make-up while driving.
