Rochester, N.Y. – Dweezil Zappa packed Kodak Hall at Eastman Theatre Tuesday night with the funky sounds of his father, Frank Zappa.

The concert, entitled Zappa plays Zappa, was the first of his summer tour.

Meeting us in the green room before the show, Zappa told us the performance was ten years in the making.

“I remember being a kid at the shows and being amazed at the variety and the depth of the music and just seeing it, the musicians playing this difficult stuff but having fun with it, it just changed my perspective of what was possible with his music,” Zappa said.

The concert is filled with his father’s music, much of it unheard by the general public.

“It’s a challenge to re-educate the audience and give them a really broad perspective of all of his music as opposed to catering to the obvious stuff that people think of, the one they might have heard,” he said.
