Irondequoit, N.Y. - John Stenclik says he has pulled into the wrong entrance to businesses on East Ridge Road because it's hard to figure out where the driveways are.
Some are closed or blocked with orange cones because of construction along East Ridge Road. The road is one way between Seneca and Hudson. Traffic is shifted to the left lane and some entrances at businesses are blocked while the road is being paved.
The good news? The work should be done in the next few weeks. The bad news? It will move further down the road, next affecting businesses between Hudson and Carter.
But when it's done, even those whose businesses have been hurt by this admit, it will be a beautiful new road.
The county has widened the road, adding new sewers, gas lines, curbs and sidewalks.
The project will eventually span the entire length of the road, ending in late 2013 on Culver Road.
Todd Black says construction has hurt his family's hardware store but he is hoping customers will come back, once the work is finished.
Schallers says its business is down 30 percent. They say customers can't figure out how to get into the restaurant, so many just keep driving by.
Manager Mark Mengel says when he arrived Wednesday for work, he had to park across the street. All entrances to the restaurant were blocked, because the road was being paved.
The parking lot was empty two hours after opening, because there was no way in our out.
Mengel says loyal customers still manage to find a way to get here and he too hopes people will come back once the construction is done.
