Hamlin, N.Y. - Three-year-old Ellie is a rescue poodle who doesn't bark that often.
So Barb Hollink knew something was up when Ellie barked at the rear door of their home last night.
"As soon as she looked out to the direction of the fire and barked, I said to Bill, she heard it...as I turned around I saw like an inferno."
The Provenzano family home next door, burned to the ground. The late Supreme Court Justice Edward Provenzano bought the home for his family in 1955. His daughter Carla was living there and was renovating the house.
Her brother Peter Provenzano was devastated when he got the call. He grew up here...he told us through his tears: "It's just my childhood...if there is a silver lining it's that no people were injured..the dogs were at the kennel. We did lose three kitties."
The home also had a lot of history. Provenzano says it's where the rumrunners came over and was a hotel at one time.
He is saddened at the loss of family photos and memorabilia but glad that no one was hurt.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
