Albany, N.Y. – New York Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Friday the creation of the Empire State Relief Fund, a charity dedicated to helping New Yorkers whose homes were damaged by Superstorm Sandy.

Funds donated will be distributed throughout the hardest hit areas across the region, in an effort to supplement the funding supplied by FEMA to rebuild homes damaged by the storm.

“I have seen first-hand the crisis that my fellow New Yorkers are facing right now and they need rebuilding help. The Empire State Relief Fund will be dedicated to helping them rebuild their homes throughout the affected regions of the state for the long-term, bridging the gap between what the government and private insurance can do and what New Yorkers will ultimately need to rebuild their lives,” said Cuomo.

As part of the fund’s launch, several New York celebrities will be producing public service announcements that will be broadcast nationally. Confirmed participants include: Katie Couric, Robert De Niro, Edie Falco, Jennifer Connelly, Michael J. Fox, Whoopi Goldberg, Al Pacino, Brian Stokes Mitchell, and Amar’e Stoudemire.

Those who wish to donate can visit empirestaterelief.com.
