Town of Greece Recommends Lakeshore Area Residents Evacuate

Monroe Co., N.Y. - On Monday at 8:30 p.m., County Executive Maggie Brooks ordered the voluntary evacuation of residents along the lakeshore in response to Hurricane Sandy.

Supervisor John Auberger has executed an order declaring a State of Emergency in the Town.

Residents were encouraged to seek shelter at friends or relatives homes or to take advantage of the American Red Cross shelter that has been established at Greece Olympia High School, 1139 Maiden Lane.  In addition the following locations are available:

The Dome Arena, 2695 East Henrietta Road, Henrietta, New York 14467
Brighton Presbyterian Church, 1775 East Avenue  Rochester, NY 14610
Sweden Community Center, 133 State Street, Brockport, NY 14420
Webster Recreation Center, 1350 Chiyoda Dr.,Webster, NY 14580
Residents in the area between the Lake Ontario State Parkway and Lake Ontario are urged to evacuate.

Chief Todd Baxter Greece Police began the evacuation by providing a security presence in the effected area. Officers went door to door to confirm that the evacuation was communicated to residents and assist residents as needed.

If you are in need of medical transportation please contact Medical Motor Service at 654-7030.  RTS buses will be available at the Greece Town Hall for those wishing to be transported to shelter site.

As residents are evacuating they are reminded to remember pets, medications and vital personal information. Residents were reminded to secure their homes and cars.

The Greece Police Department is providing a security presence in the area throughout the duration of the storm.
