Henrietta, N.Y. – When gas first hit $4 a gallon, the demand for hybrids like the Toyota Prius exploded.
As we near that same mark now, though, many dealers are not seeing the same spike.
“A little bit less hysteria, we’ve seen this show more,” said Will Trafton, COO of Dorschel Automotive.
Trafton says most customers are continuously conscious of fuel economy.
Brad McAreavy of the Rochester Automobile Dealers Association adds when those customers enter the showroom hybrids are no longer their only option saying many sedans get more than 30 miles per gallon.
“It’s not an option, the government has demanded cars be more environmentally-friendly,” he said.
Should you want an ultra-gas sipper, Volkswagen is starting production on a car that will get more than 200 miles per gallon.
That car will not be at the Rochester Auto Show next weekend, but the new Prius plug-in may be there.
That car will get 90 miles per gallon.
