Gates, N.Y. -- The Boy’s Varsity Basketball coach at Gates Chili High School and teacher’s aide in the district is accused of having sex with a female student.

Thirty-eight-year-old Monte Nowden was fired by the school district Monday. The alleged incident happened on January 30th off school grounds and outside of school hours.

Nowden is charged with two counts: third degree rape and third degree criminal sex act.

The school district says it acted after receiving information about the incident on Monday morning.

The district appointed Chris Amesbury as the varsity boys' basketball coach for the remainder of the season. He was previously the junior varsity boys' basketball coach.

Players were informed of the coaching change on Tuesday morning.
