Batavia, N.Y. --- In Genesee County local and state law enforcement officers are well aware of the problems that synthetic drugs are causing in their communities.
On Thursday Governor Andrew Cuomo told local media outlets that he too is aware of these problems and is already working with lawmakers on a solution.
“It is a problem that is literally exploding,” Gov. Cuomo said. “I have been talking to the legislature and we're going to be taking further aggressive action in the near future.”
In March the Governor issued a statewide ban on the sale of various synthetic marijuana products. The ban ordered county health departments to inform all necessary retail outlets, perform compliance checks, and refer non-compliant matters to the state for further action.
Subsequent federal investigations and a crackdown initiated by Attorney General Eric Scheiderman revealed that undercover agents were still able to purchase dangerous synthetic marijuana and products known as bath salts at many local smoke shops.
