Greece, N.Y. - Greece Police have formally charged 11 people in connection with three fights that took place at Greece Athena High School last week, according to a spokesman.
The charges were not detailed nor were names released. Nine of the people charged are Greece Athena students, according to district spokeswoman Laurel Heiden.
The fights began Thursday in the school parking lot and two others, smaller in size followed Friday, according to Heiden.
Video of some of the fighting was captured by a student, according to Heiden. That student has not been disciplined, but may be according to the district.
“Even though you might think that you’re a bystander and you’re not involved, as we’ve seen illustrated in this situation, there are some consequences for bystanders because with the social media it may become known that you were part of that situation,” said Heiden.
In response to the fights, district added a fifth security officer for the high school and have shuffled the patrols in and around the school.
The district is also encouraging students to report issues they hear of before those problems escalate into flights.
