Greece, N.Y. - Katie and Kelly Breitung have spent the last 18 years explaining their unusual birth.
They were born two months early and four days apart in 1994. Katie arrived on February 28th. Kelly was born on March 4th.
John Breitung says he wanted what every parent does: healthy babies.
He says at the time split births for twins were rare, there were 30 recorded cases in the country.
When the twins were born, the story made headlines. Newspapers called Kelly "the tardy twin".
Since the teens don't look alike and have opposite interests, people still have trouble believing they are, in fact, twins!
Their father jokes: "yes they are twins, it says so on their birth certificates."
The teens say they are connected and sometimes know what the other is thinking. Sometimes, they start humming the same songs.
They are seniors at Greece Odyssey and in the fall will go their separate ways, attending different colleges.
But they will always enjoy telling the story of how they came into the world four days apart!!
