Rochester, N.Y. -- RG&E is reporting power outages as people crank up the air conditioning to deal with the oppressive heat.
The outages have been scattered throughout Monroe and Wayne Counties.
As of midnight Wednesday, 1,482 customers, most of them in Rochester, were still without power. RG&E estimates it will have the power back on by 1:30 a.m.
A spokesman for RG&E says a new usage record was set on July 21, 2011 when it hit 1,752 mega watts. RG&E expects Tuesday's usage to top the current 2012 high. The utility will not know if a new record was set until Wednesday.
