Rochester, N.Y. - Mandi Burnette's brother Jeffrey Burnette says he's not angry, that he and his family just want answers.“We're just trying to figure out what took place,” Burnette said. “Anger doesn't really help much of anything.”
The family is trying to figure out who would hit a wife and mother of two young kids, leaving her in the middle of the street.
“The one thing that she [Mandi] does keep saying is, ‘what kind of person would hit somebody and drive off? I would never hit somebody and then drive,’” Burnette said.
Mandi was with at least five or six people while crossing the street that night.
Those who witnessed the crash say the driver of a dark colored sedan left Mandi unconscious in the middle of the road.
She suffered a broken arm, broken pelvis and severe head trauma.
“She's very much the center of our family and very important to all of us, really nice person, very giving,” Burnette said.
The family now hopes someone will give back, providing some information about the whereabouts of this unknown car or give more information about what happened.
“Please contact the police and let us know what you saw,” Burnette said.
Jeffrey also hopes Mandi will make a full recovery for his wedding day in July; Mandi is supposed to be his best woman at the ceremony.
“Whether she's able to be there or not, she'll be there in spirit,” Burnette said.
Mandi is still in the ICU but is making progress.
