Big Bear Lake, Calif. - Sheriff's deputies now say charred remains have been found in a burned out cabin.

This is part of the search for Chris Dorner, the fired L.A. police officer accused in three murders.

A shootout started Tuesday after police responded to the report of a stolen car.

One sheriff's deputy was killed and another injured.

The cabin caught fire after police stormed it and tossed smoke devices inside.

Police denied earlier reports that Dorner's body had been taken out of the cabin.

"We believe that someone was inside,” said San Bernardino Co. Sheriff’s Deputy Cindy Bachman. “We had reason to believe that was Christopher Dorner."

Investigators will use forensic tests to see if the remains are that of Chris Dorner.
