Day Of Giving Raises Nearly $17M For Sandy Victims

(ABC/WHAM) - ABC's "Day of Giving" fundraiser for victims of Hurricane Sandy raised $16.8 million.

The money will go to the American Red Cross for storm relief efforts.

Appeals were aired during ABC's news, daytime, primetime and late night programming, and on local affiliate stations, including 13WHAM-TV, syndicated and cable stations and online sources.

Major contributors include ABC personalities Barbara Walters, George Stephanopoulos and Mark Cuban, the Dallas Mavericks owner and star of ABC's "Shark Tank."

In addition, the Walt Disney Co. made a $1 million contribution to local charities.

Samsung also partnered with ABC for the "Day of Giving," matching donations with a $3 million dollar contribution.
