Dryden, N.Y. -- Opponents of hydrofracking got a small victory on Tuesday.

A state supreme court judge in Tompkins County ruled that local municipalities have the power to ban the controversial method of natural gas drilling.

A gas company sued the Town of Dryden after leaders there changed the zoning law to prohibit gas drilling.

The ruling will likely be appealed.
