Irondequoit, N.Y. -- A fire destroyed a town salt barn at Irondequoit's Public Works facility on Titus Avenue Friday afternoon.
The fire forced police to shut down several roads in the area.
The fire started in a salt barn around 3:20 p.m.
Ladder trucks sprayed water onto the building, but only a few beams of the building were left at the fire.
Town Supervisor Mary Joyce D'Aurizio says the fire spread to some other garages and some equipment was damaged.
The salt barn was set to be replaced and the director of Public Works says most of the salt is salvageable and will be used next winter.
Firefighters have not determined how the fire started.
