Rochester, N.Y. -- He's at it again. Inspiring, reaching for the stars, setting big goals, then knocking them down.
Jason "J-Mac" McElwain added another feather to his athletic cap by accomplishing his goal of qualifying for the Boston Marathon in April. And he did it by coming in 15th place in his first marathon ever.
McElwain finished the MVP Health Care Rochester Marathon in three hours, one minute and forty-one seconds. He needed to do it under 3:05 to qualify.
"It was a dream come true," he said. "Hardest thing I've ever done."
McElwain came to fame six years ago when, thanks to a grainy home video, the country watched him score 20 points in less than five minutes in a high school basketball game.
When one of 13WHAM's photographers asked McElwain if he had any words of wisdom to pass on after his successful marathon run, the Greece resident didn't hesitate to answer.
"Here's a quote: people who try and fail are more superior than people who don't try at all."
