Phelps, N.Y. – Joseph Spezio, 64, has died after injuries sustained from a three car crash on State Rte. 14 around 10 a.m. on Friday.
Police say that Spezio was driving a Subaru sedan and traveling southbound when he crossed over into the northbound lane, sideswiping a tractor trailer driven by Eric Turner. Turner was not injured in the crash.
After sideswiping Turner, Spezio continued in the northbound lane and crashed head on into an Acura sedan being driven by Jeffrey LaDue, 46, according to police.
Police say Spezio and LaDue were both taken to Strong Memorial Hospital by Mercy Flight for critical injuries.
Spezio died on Saturday from his injuries, according to police.
LaDue is in satisfactory condition at Strong Memorial Hospital.
Police are still investigating what caused Spezio to swerve into oncoming traffic.
