Ontario, N.Y. - A karate tournament was held Saturday to benefit a child trying to kick cancer.

The Kuk Sool Won School put on the event at the Casey Park indoor soccer field in Ontario.

They do this every year to raise money for a young cancer patient. This year, they're helping 12-year-old Lauren Miller from Palmyra.

Lauren has been battling leukemia for about six months. On Saturday, she showed up at the tournament to see sixty to seventy competitors sparring and donating on her behalf.

"It means a lot because even though we don't know them, they're there for us and they're helping us. They're just so generous," said Miller.

Organizers went into the day hoping to raise $5,000. As of late Saturday afternoon, they were at $7,000.
