Victor, N.Y. – A Victor man is facing charges after an 11-hour standoff with police on Ketchum Street Monday.
Ryan Whidden, 31, is charged with criminal possession of a weapon. Additional charges are pending.
Ontario County Sheriff’s deputies said a man called 911 around 9:20 a.m. Monday when he saw Whidden come out of his home on Ketchum Street and shoot a gun at two of his own cars in his driveway. There was no one inside those cars.
Police say Whidden then barricaded himself in a first-floor bedroom in the house and used 45-year-old Nina Whidden as a shield. She will not be charged.
"We believe his intent was to barricade himself most likely waiting for law enforcement to engage in a gun battle," said Ontario County Sheriff Phil Povero.
Another neighbor called 911 shortly after, saying they heard gun shots come from the back of the house.
A total of seven shots were fired from a .40 caliber pistol during the standoff.
Police had been called to the house at least twice for domestic incidents, the most recent of which was last Friday.
Police established a perimeter around the home and used a bull horn to try to talk him into coming out. No contact was made between the man and law enforcement.
Shortly before 9 p.m., authorities used flash bangs and tear gas to get the man and his wife out of the home.
They left the residence without incident.
Neighbors were allowed to return to their homes late Monday night.
One rifle is still unaccounted for. Police are searching the home.
Whidden is being held on $250,000 bail.
