Webster, N.Y. - Dorothy Sawyer always had a feeling her dog Teddy was still alive.
She was reunited with her Sheltie at home Monday, nearly exactly seven months since he went missing. "I was praying everyday and never gave up," Dorothy said from her Webster home.
Dorothy had knee surgery last summer and needed someone to take care of her dog. So one of her sons in Skaneateles cared for Teddy while Dorothy recovered from surgery.
But on July 4th, 2011, fireworks spooked Teddy, who slipped out of his choker collar and ran off from the home where he was staying.
Dorothy's family put up posters with pictures of Teddy, but no one could find him. Neighbors of Sawyer's son also searched off and on for months.
They thought they spotted Teddy one day in a field, but couldn't catch him, so they set an animal trap with meat.
Then, on Saturday came the call Dorothy hoped for since last summer, her dog was alive. Teddy was found in the animal trap set by Ted Fox, the director of the Rosamond Gifford Zoo in Syracuse. Fox thinks the mild winter helped Teddy survive in the wild.
One of Dorothy's sons, Tom, picked up Teddy and drove him back to his mother's home in Webster.
