Rochester, N.Y. - Two drivers are now facing more charges in an accident that killed a Fairport teacher.
Heather Boyum, 40, was riding her bike on Route 250 in Penfield back in July, when she was hit by a motorcycle and knocked into a path of a car.
Mark Scerbo II is now charged with vehicular homicide in Boyum's death. He is also charged with driving recklessly under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Prosecutors said Scerbo struck Boyum with his motorcycle, knocking her in the path of a car.
Prosecutors said Meagan Merkel was driving the car, and could not stop because she was allegedly also driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol, and the car she was driving had bad brakes. She is charged with DWI and manslaughter.
Both Merkel and Scerbo pleaded not guilty in Monroe County Court Tuesday to all charges.
Former teacher Nan Helser was in court to support Boyum's memory. She said she wants justice for her friend.
