Marion, N.Y. - Before hitting the books Thursday, many students at Marion Central School got a very close haircut.

Hallie Dezio, 12, organized a "Bald for Bucks" fundraiser where students and staff shaved their heads for the Roswell Park Cancer Center.

Dezio said she and the school were able to raise $5,000 with 26 people getting their heads shaved.

She decided a few months ago to raise money because a family friend has cancer.

"I just wanted to put myself in their shoes," Hallie said about people who are battling cancer.

Math teacher Carrie Goodell said Hallie has an amazing heart and spirit and she was not surprised to hear that Hallie wanted to organize such a great fundraiser.
