Rochester, N.Y.- Rochester Mayor Tom Richards announced his pick Friday for the position of Rochester Fire Chief.
At a 3 p.m. press conference on Friday, Richards appointed Salvatore "Sam" Mitrano as Rochester's permanent Fire Chief.
Rochester’s former Fire Chief, John Caulfield, retired back in April and took a new position as regional director of the National Fire Protection Association. Mitrano has been serving as Interim Chief since.
"Sam has been at this for a long time. Twenty-five years in the department, he was a volunteer fireman before that, he's held about every rank that you can have in this department, and he's proved, I think, long before this, but certainly in the past year, that he can do this job," said Richards.
The appointment is subject to confirmation by City Council.
