Rochester, N.Y. - Rochester’s new fire chief was sworn into office Friday.
Mayor Tom Richards administered the Oath of the Office of Fire Chief for Salvatore Mitrano III in a formal ceremony at City Hall.
"Sam Mitrano has dedicated 25 years to the Rochester Fire Department and he has earned my trust and the trust of this community in the process," said Mayor Richards. "It is my great pleasure to formalize his appointment as Fire Chief today. Under his leadership, the Fire Department will continue to provide world class public safety and customer service."
Rochester’s former Fire Chief, John Caulfield, retired in April and took a new position as regional director of the National Fire Protection Association. Mitrano has been serving as Interim Chief since.
Mitrano has been with the fire department for 25 years.
