Washington, D.C. - Outgoing Monroe County District Attorney Mike Green will not be renominated for a Federal Judge position in Western New York.
The White House Press Office says President Obama has decided against renominating Green to fill the judicial vacancy.
Green was one of eight candidates sent back to the President for approval by the Senate before starting a month long break.
He was officially nominated to fill a vacancy left by retiring Judge David Larimer in January.
Green served as District Attorney for seven years and was Assistant District Attorney for 17 years.
So what's next for Green?
Green’s colleagues say with the experience he has, the sky is the limit.
Even so, this is still not the news Green was hoping for.
Green was recommended for the position by Senator Chuck Schumer.
13 WHAM spoke to Mike Green over the phone, he did not want to comment but expects to address the issue in the next few days.
Some of his colleagues are speaking out, including former Assistant District Attorney Van White.
"I'm actually quite surprised. I was expecting that his nomination would have gone through rather smoothly, he's an experienced court room litigator and I'm disappointed for him,” White said.
White says it’s because of Green’s experience that provides more opportunities for him.
"He's young, he's skilled, he's respected, I think he could do whatever he wanted to do,” said White.
Senator Chuck Schumer issued a statement.
Schumer says, "Mike Green would have made an outstanding judge and it is very unfortunate not only for him, but for a strong judiciary, that partisan politics stood in the way."
We also reached out to the Monroe County Republican Chair, but we were unable to get a hold of him.
