Fairport, N.Y. - Ice cream: Not part of a complete breakfast.
But that's what folks gobbled up at a 50-year tradition at Moonlight Creamery in Fairport Saturday morning.
International Eat Ice Cream For Breakfast Day started in the mid-1960s by a woman in Irondequoit. Moonlight Creamery’s celebration of the day is in its fifth year.
The proceeds raised go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
We asked one of the co-owners if she was taken aback by the large early morning crowds.
"We have some pretty good fans so I'm not entirely surprised," said co-owner Heidi Grenek. "I think it does serve a purpose of breaking up a long winter and its for a great cause so I think those things together get them out of bed and get them willing to eat some ice cream.”
Saturday's breakfast menu consisted of belgian waffles a la mode, ice cream filled donut sandwiches and cereal-flavored ice cream.
