Irondequoit, N.Y. - Just four months after a massive fire destroyed the wooden salt barn in Irondequoit, a new structure is now up and almost finished.
The structure is made of steel, with a concrete floor and offers more space for salt storage.
We got the first tour of the new facility Wednesday. The contractor is almost finished and the concrete floor will go in soon.
All they need now is salt. Commissioner of Public Works Patrick Meredith says workers were devastated by that fire back in June. He says they have been working hard to get the site prepared for the new barn.
A cold storage building will also be constructed next door in a few months.
The cause of that fire was undetermined, but officials suspect it was electrical.
Insurance will cover almost all of the 200-thousand dollar cost of the new structure.
