New York, N.Y. (AP) - A barefoot man who was given all-weather boots by a police officer has been living in a Bronx apartment for the past year.

The image of Jeffrey Hillman being given the shoes on a New York City street in November by Officer Larry DePrimo became an Internet sensation.

The Daily News reported that Hillman lives in the apartment with government aid and federal benefits.

A spokeswoman for the city's Department of Homeless Services said Hillman has turned down some services in the past, but used other ones.

Hillman is barefoot again. He told The New York Times that he hid the boots he was given. He said he's afraid to wear them on the streets because they're valuable.
