Rochester, N.Y. - Santa’s helpers were hard at work Thursday trying to make Christmas bright for some families in need.
The Open Door Mission Samaritan House Rescue Shelter held its annual Christmas Toy Store event.
Sixty single mothers were given free children’s toys to put under their trees for Christmas.
The women are part of a program at the Open Door Mission.
Roy Albert attended the event for his girlfriend who is in the hospital. She has four children. Albert said they are especially thankful for the help this year.
“It really helps us out financially,” said Albert. “I love to see a smile on their faces when they open the toys they really want and they’re right here. It's really a blessing."
A team of volunteers was also on hand at the event wrapping the toys for the women.
