Penfield, N.Y. – Monroe County Sheriff’s deputies said a woman seriously hurt in a car crash Thursday afternoon in Penfield has died.

Ellen Maher died on Friday.

Deputies say around 5:30 p.m. James Maher, of Macedon, was driving west on Route 441 and turned left onto Watson Road, when his car was hit by another vehicle heading east.

Maher’s wife, Ellen, who was in the backseat, was thrown from the car during the crash.

Police say Maher’s other two passengers; his daughter, Erica Silverman, and his 2-year-old grandson were not badly hurt.

The other driver, Michael Tyson, of Macedon, was alone in his car. He suffered minor injuries.

Police say witnesses reported Tyson was travelling at a very high rate of speed.
