Rochester, N.Y. - The Humane Society of Greater Rochester found an abandoned pit bull with severe injuries Tuesday near Silver and Madison Streets.

Officers say the adult female pit bull mix was locked in a crate, which was covered in blood. The dog has injuries consistent with being in a fight, including cuts and puncture wounds to her face, a torn ear and wounds to her leg.

The dog is being treated at Lollypop Farm while officers investigate.

Abandoning a pet is a misdemeanor in New York state, punishable by up to a year in jail and/or a $1,000 fine.

Anyone with information about this dog is asked to call the Humane Society Animal Cruelty Hotline at 585-223-6500.
