New York (AP) - A new poll shows a tight race for a Western New York congressional seat that a Democrat won in a special election last year, but redistricting has made more Republican.

A poll released Sunday shows Republican former Erie County Executive Chris Collins leading Democratic incumbent Kathy Hochul by 47 percent to 45 percent in New York's 27th Congressional District. The poll was conducted by The Buffalo News, WGRZ-TV and Sienna College.

The telephone poll tapped 628 likely voters. The two-point difference is within the margin of error.

Hochul buoyed Democrats by winning last year in the heavily Republican district.

Registered Republicans now outnumber Democrats by 8 percentage points in the district. It links the outskirts of Buffalo and Rochester.
