New York (AP) – Power has been restored to about 60 percent of those who had lost power because of Sandy in the New York metro area.
However, Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Saturday that there were still around 900,000 customers without power in the area.
The "have-nots" include about 550,000 customers on Long Island. That's down from 1.2 million initially.
Cuomo acknowledged that people without power are suffering.
He said the lingering power woes are largely in areas with overhead lines.
There also are some outages remaining upstate.
New York State Electric & Gas reported about 47,000.
Central Hudson Gas and Electric had about 3,700.
