Lyons, N.Y. – The Wayne County man charged with raping a nine-month-old girl was found guilty Friday morning.

A judge convicted Richard Dallas, 25, on six of the eight charges against him, including the most serious charge of predatory sexual assault on a child. The crime carries a maximum sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

Wayne County District Attorney Richard Healy says he isn't surprised by the verdict.

"It is what I expected," he says. "I felt that from the beginning, the evidence we had was very strong. That's why we never made an offer to plea bargain the case. We had a strong case."

Dallas was accused of raping the child in November of 2011, sending her to the hospital with major internal injuries.

Her mother is also satisfied with the verdict, but now she wants Dallas to be punished to the fullest extent of the law.

"I hope he gets life with no parole," she says. "He hurt an innocent child that's not even his. He deserves everything the state and government can give him."

The child is now 16-months-old. Her mother says she is walking, talking and recovering well. Doctors expect her to make a full recovery.

He will be back in court for sentencing on July 17.
