Greece, N.Y. - A Greece police officer was honored Wednesday for his life-saving role in the Christmas Eve ambush in Webster.
Officer John Ritter was named a Paul Harris Fellow, receiving the Greece Rotary Community Service Person of the Year Award.
This is one of the highest honors Rotary can bestow on a community member.
Officer Ritter, a 19 year member of the department, was on his way to work on the morning of December 24th, when he encountered emergency response vehicles on Lake Road.
His personal vehicle came under gunfire. R
itter bent over, put his car in reverse and backed up to prevent anyone else from responding to the scene.
