Rochester, N.Y. – As part of Adopt-A-Cat Month, the City of Rochester is offering free adoptions this weekend.
A City spokesperson says the goal of the event is to free up space at local shelters by finding homes for hundreds of cats. Overcrowding becomes a problem in shelters during the spring and summer months.
Animal Services takes in around 3,000 cats every year, but can only find homes for about 600.
After the two-day free adoption weekend, shelters will offer a $30 discount on adoptions for the rest of the month.
