Rochester, N.Y. – The Rochester Museum and Science Center celebrated Native American culture as part of Haudenosaunee Day Saturday.

The event is put on to educate the public on Native American culture by showing demonstrations of basket weaving, jewelry making, flute making and other arts and crafts people that are not usually at the museum.

Jamie Jacobs, a cultural specialist at RMSC, said this event is important “Not only to educate the public, but also to educate the younger native people that these are things our ancestors did, and we should try and work hard to keep it going so that it doesn’t die out.”
