Henrietta, N.Y. — Two inches of snow may barely be noticeable for those of a region accustomed to snowfall, but public works crews are taking it seriously.
“We’re looking at the dew point, temperature outside and chance of precipitation,” said Craig Eckert, Commissioner of Public Works for the Town of Henrietta.
Monroe County is only expected to get a possible one to three inches of snowfall overnight, according to Meteorologist Jeff Najder.
“There’s still a good chance for black ice early in the winter so to speak,” Eckert said.
Henrietta has 19 trucks loaded with salt and an overnight dispatcher prepared to call drivers in at any point.
East Henrietta Road, Calkins Road and nearby bridges are among the roads for which the town’s crews are responsible.
Because of the mild winter of 2011, there are still 6,000 tons of salt in Penfield’s salt barn, according to Town Supervisor Tony LaFountain.
Snow watchers are keeping close tabs on the changing conditions as the night carries on.
“It’s not so much the concern how much we get it’s the temperature and temperature fluctuation,” said LaFountain.
