Rochester, N.Y. - Work has already started at the future home of Calkins Corner, an income based senior housing complex next to Wegmans on Calkins Road in Henrietta.

The agency Pathstone was awarded $9 Million dollars to build housing in the town last year.

The complex will house about 60 apartments and is expected to open early next summer.

“In Henrietta and Monroe County, there continues to be a need for this kind of housing, that's clearly been demonstrated and we've had a few projects going on in Henrietta to answer this need,” Town Supervisor Michael Yudelson said.

$3.5 Million dollars went to the New York Best Commercialization Center that will house a battery testing facility at Eastman Business Park.

It's there companies will have batteries developed and tested for durability.

A spokesperson tells 13Wham News construction is expected to start sometime in the first quarter, and hope to be up and running in mid 2013.

The Finger Lakes museum was awarded $2.3 Million dollars for phase one of its reconstruction projects.

The museum already broke ground on a discovery campus for children housed at an old school.

The campus will serve as a learning tool for kids.

Construction is expected to get underway this week.

The campus is scheduled to finish sometime between the summer and fall of 2013.

The town of Brighton was awarded about $1.6 Million to retrofit a portion of Monroe Avenue by installing storm water street trees.

The purpose is to reduce storm water pollution and control water overflows.

The project has not gotten underway yet.

A contract was executed in September and could be finished within one year.
