Greece, N.Y. – Officer Sam Ross of the Greece Police Department has been charged with three counts of unlawfully dealing with a child, a misdemeanor.
Ross is accused of providing alcohol to a minor on three separate occasions in September. Police say the minor was 18 years of age.
“We lead people and sometimes people make mistakes,” said Greece Police Chief Todd Baxter. “The part that I would like to emphasize is if you make a mistake like this and it comes to my knowledge in the Greece Police Department, we are well in position to police our own. We’ll let the process play out. Everybody’s got due process to play out in the courts and also with our charges internally.”
Ross, of Ontario, N.Y., turned himself in at the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office and was arrested Friday afternoon. An appearance ticket was issued to Ross and he was released. He will return to court on October 23rd.
Ross has been suspended from the Greece Police Department with pay, pending the outcome of a continuing internal investigation.
